Earlier this month, Dr Giselle Spiteri Miggiani was invited to deliver a keynote speech at an international conference organized by IULM in Milan. Titled "Training Translators and Interpreters Today: Perspectives and Evolutions," the conference focused on the impact of AI on translation and interpreting training. Dr Spiteri Miggiani's keynote, “Riding the Revolution: New Frontiers in Audiovisual Translation Training,” showcased how the Translation Department is integrating new technologies and tools to enhance students' professional profiles, ensuring they develop versatile all-round skills that make them employable in a rapidly changing industry.

She discussed effective ways to incorporate AI tools in a didactic context while addressing the journey ahead for both trainers and trainees, highlighting the challenges and fears as well as the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. Preparation, knowledge, expertise, and versatile skills are essential, underscoring the importance of training in languages and translation studies.

Earlier this semester, Dr Spiteri Miggiani also delivered a workshop at the prestigious International Languages and the Media conference, where she proposed a quality assessment framework for media localisation, specifically for AI-generated dubbed and voice-over content. Prior to that, she was invited to the Universidad Europea in Valencia to deliver one of the opening lectures for the Master in Audiovisual Translation.

The academic members of the Department of Translation, Terminology, and Interpreting Studies regularly engage in speaking events at other institutions to enhance the visibility of the department and their course programmes and attract Master’s and doctoral students to the Faculty of Arts.
