The University of Malta (UM) is fully committed to providing appropriate learning resources and student support, in line with the national and European standards for Internal Quality Assurance (IQA). One aspect through which UM strives to tangibly achieve this is through the provision of suitable study spaces which students may access during extended hours. A number of such locations have been made available to students, namely:
• Library: The Library’s standard hours are from 07:00 to 20:00 during the term, with extended hours from 07:00 to 11:00 during examination periods (from early January to mid-February, and from early May to mid-June).
• Dar Manwel Magri: The Jesuit community has provided a significant part of Dar Manwel Magri available for the use of students and staff, not only for groupwork and individual study but also for lectures, meetings, prayer and casual encounters. Students are welcome at any time from Monday to Friday between 7:00 and 22:00, all year round. The space is fully air-conditioned and offers several facilities for the students’ convenience.
• KSU-PwC Common Room & Kokka Salott: The Kunsill Student Universitarji (KSU) converts the KSU-PwC Common Room as a study area from a month before the commencement of examination sessions until the sessions’ end. Moreover, the Kokka Salott is also reserved as a quiet study area for students.
• Additional locations: In liaison with KSU, the University identifies further locations to be utilised as alternative reading spaces as required. For example, for the examination sessions of June and September 2024, the University made arrangements to provide two lecture rooms (OH105 and OH112) after hours, from 20:00 onwards.
As part of its drive for continuous improvement, UM invites all students who have made use of the above study spaces to submit feedback on their experience. The Quality Assurance Committee will evaluate all feedback received and the provision of these study spaces will be fine-tuned accordingly.
