On Friday 14 February, the Department of Midwifery hosted its first-ever team-building event at the University Sports Pavilion. Organised in response to student feedback highlighting the need for greater inter-cohort connections, the event aimed to foster a stronger sense of community and collaboration among students and staff.
Head of Department, Dr Rita Pace Parascandalo, in collaboration with Mr Oliver Mallia, Sports Manager at the Institute of Physical Education and Sports, facilitated an engaging and purposeful event to support these objectives. The event provided students with an opportunity to unwind and reconnect following the completion of their first-semester assessments. Stepping beyond the academic setting, participants engaged in a series of dynamic activities in a relaxed and informal environment, strengthening relationships while promoting teamwork.
Traditional Maltese games such as passju, tlett saqajn, and igbed il-habel were incorporated to highlight key skills essential to midwifery practice, including communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. By integrating these core professional competencies into interactive and enjoyable activities, the event facilitated both personal and professional development.
This inaugural team-building initiative proved to be a resounding success, offering an enriching and uplifting experience for all participants. The Department of Midwifery looks forward to building on this momentum and continuing to create opportunities that enhance the student experience and strengthen the midwifery community.
