The Faculty of Health Sciences recently honoured one of its founders, Prof. John Rizzo Naudi, a visionary leader in healthcare education, who served as the Chair of the Faculty’s forerunner, the Institute of Healthcare, between 1987 and 2010.
The event included speeches by the Dean of the Faculty, Dr Stephen Lungaro Mifsud; the University of Malta Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella; the Minister for Health and Active Ageing, Hon. Dr Joe Etienne Abela; the first director of the Institute of Healthcare, Prof. Anthony Serracino Inglott, and Dr Joseph Rizzo Naudi, one of Prof. John Rizzo Naudi’s children.
A brief video commemorating the life and work of Prof. John Rizzo Naudi was launched during the event. Various members of Prof. Rizzo Naudi’s family, as well as collaborators, former and current members of staff and students were in attendance.
During the event, the former office of Prof. Rizzo Naudi’s office was officially inaugurated as the John Rizzo Naudi Lecture Room, following approval of the renaming by the University Honours Committee, Senate and Council. Professor Rizzo Naudi’s children also awarded a portrait of their father, completed by Esprit Barthet in 1991, to the Faculty of Health Sciences. The portrait will be displayed at the Faculty’s board room and now forms part of the University of Malta’s art collection.
Thanks are due to various members of the Faculty’s administrative, academic, technical and domestic staff, the Marketing, Communications & Alumni Office and the Conference and Events Unit for their efforts to make this event possible.
