A Call is being published for the provision of expert services in relation to the compilation of a CORALLO project booklet on marine alien species. The expert services being contracted are needed for the July-August 2023 period.
1. Applications are invited for an external expert to work on CORALLO, a project financed by the InterregV-A Programme, in which the Department of Geosciences at the University of Malta is the Lead Partner (Coordinator) and which promotes the responsible enjoyment of marine Natura 2000 sites in Malta and Sicily.
2. The main tasks of the engaged expert include the following:
Compiling a popular science (non-technical) booklet on the thematic of marine alien species by:
- Drafting an initial list of marine alien species to be included in the booklet and which are relevant to Maltese waters;
- Collating the relevant information concerning the alien species included in this list;
- Collating imagery of a suitable resolution and which are not the object of proprietary rights for each species included in this list;
- Liaising with any additional authors who have been identified for providing supplementary material for the booklet in question, including forewords;
- Preparing an initial and COMPLETE digital draft of the camera-ready booklet prior to it being uploaded on the CORALLO project website.
- A3 or A4 format, in full colour (gloss);
- minimum number of pages: 48;
- minimum number of marine alien species included: 20
- minimum number of high-resolution photos for each included species: 1
3. The ideal applicant:
- Should have a first degree in Biology;
- Should be familiar with the concept of marine invasions;
- Should have his/her own means of transport (fuel costs will not be reimbursed by the University of Malta);
- Should be VAT-registered and resident in Malta and
- Should be fluent in both Maltese and English.
4. Additionally, familiarity with publication editing software (e.g. InDesign or similar) and previous experience with writing popular science material will be considered an asset.
5. The engagement will last for a maximum of TWO (2) months from receipt of appointment letter, over the July- August 2023 period. The total for the rendered service will be €4980 (excl. VAT). Payment will be transferred by the University of Malta payable against the issuance of a VAT invoice by the selected candidate once the requested service, upon successful completion of all tasks, as certified by Prof. Alan Deidun (CORALLO Principal Investigator at the University of Malta).
