Title: Getting started with the VLE

The workshop is designed to introduce academics to the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) supported by the University of Malta. The participants will gain the skills to use this e-learning platform (based on Moodle) effectively to complement and enhance their study-unit/class areas.
In this workshop, the participants will learn how to share resources like journal articles and YouTube videos, post updates using the Announcements forum, and foster engagement through discussion forums. Participants will also learn how to reuse learning resources from previous VLEs using the VLE Copy Tool. Participants are required to bring their laptops for this hands-on workshop.

The workshop introduces academics to the plagiarism detection software Turnitin. The participants will learn how to create and manage submission drop-boxes for assignments and undergraduate dissertations within the UM VLE ensuring compliance with the University's plagiarism guidelines and policies. The workshop will also provide guidance on interpreting Turnitin similarity reports. Participants are required to bring their laptops for this hands-on workshop.

The University of Malta has several learning spaces equipped with technology such as a projected whiteboard, document camera, Zoom, Lecture Capture (Panopto), AV control, etc. These spaces also support hybrid lectures and integrate with the UM Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
This hands-on workshop is designed to help academics familiarise themselves with the technology and AV equipment available in the learning spaces. Participants will learn how to operate the desk console for both class-based and hybrid lectures, and will learn how to schedule a Zoom session in the VLE and assign it to a venue. The benefits of Lecture Capture (Panopto) will also be discussed.
All staff are encouraged to regularly consult the training schedule for information on forthcoming workshops and sessions.
