The Marketing, Communications and Alumni Office is happy to introduce its new Director, Pierre Cassar.
Pierre Cassar steps into the shoes of Patricia Camilleri who had set up the Communications Office at the University of Malta, over twenty-five years ago. As many of you who have had the pleasure to work with Tricia know, she led the Office in her inimitable and effective way, taking it to the forefront of University affairs – presenting the institution as a reputable organisation of critical relevance to this country and beyond. Patricia has now retired and passed the baton on to Pierre.
Pierre Cassar is no newcomer to University. He spent seven years working at Campus FM, formerly known as Ir-Radju tal-Università , eventually serving as Station Manager.
In March 2009 he was appointed as Chief Executive of the Broadcasting Authority, a post he held until this September. During his term in office the Broadcasting Authority held the Chair of the Mediterranean Network of Regulatory Authorities in 2012 and oversaw six electoral campaigns including two referenda.
Pierre has extensive experience in broadcasting media having worked in sports journalism for 18 years. He has also held managerial posts in corporate communications at Heritage Malta and the former Institute for the Promotion of Small Enterprise.
He is visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences and is active in sport administration having served as Director of Media with the Malta Olympic Committee between 2000 and 2004.
