What's new at Melitensia
Book of the month - December 2018
Church-State Relations in eighteenth century Malta: Gio Nicolò Muscat (1735-1803) by Frans Ciappara
This is a well-researched recent publication by historian Prof. Francis Ciappara. The book focuses mostly on Giovanni Nicolò Muscat who was the most important lawyer during Grand Master De Rohan’s time. He voiced his ideas and thoughts on Church-State relations during the latter half of the eighteenth century. During his political career, he put in discussion the differences between the state and the ecclesiastical powers and how these should be separate from each other. This publication includes facsimiles and prints from primary sources. It also includes a well detailed bibliography.
Prof. Frans Ciappara was one of the three University academics who recently won one of the Malta Historical Society Scholarly Publication Awards. More information is available on Newspoint.
The list of new Melitensia accessions is available on the Library website.~~~
