The University of Malta is currently noticing a number of fake social media posts (in certain cases, even sponsored campaigns) trying to sell courses on its behalf (see above examples).
May we remind you that this practice is fraudulent and the University has no direct control of its occurrence.
Here are some tips that may help in spotting a fake notice/advertisement:
- Use of old/outdated University of Malta branding
- Page / Account names that are not those official to the University of Malta
- Old or blurry photography
- Use of font colours that are not typical of the UM brand
- Fake links that do not point to the um.edu.mt domain. Subsequently, any link which is not using the HTTPS protocol is immediately considered suspicious.
With your help we can collectively help in trying to minimise the chances of someone getting scammed.
If you do notice such fake advertisements, kindly report them to the respective social media platform.
