What's new in Melitensia
Melitensia's Resource of the month – May 2024
Ordinazioni by Prof. Horatio Caesar Roger Vella
These volumes transcribe the first four volume-manuscripts (with the fifth still undergoing correction) discovered at the Archives of the Custody of Holy Land, which spans territories including Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, and Rhodes. Since the 17th century, the Custodians of the Holy Land have meticulously recorded their administration in documents known as Ordinazioni. Notably, among these records are circular letters penned in Italian, offering guidance to the friars on their conduct and responsibilities towards their own communities and pilgrims. Those interested in religious archives, religious history, classics, archeology, and similar fields will find these volumes invaluable. With only five copies known worldwide, one of them is available for consultation in Melitensia.
The list of new Melitensia acquisitions is available online.
