The Office for Human Resources Management & Development and the Office for Professional Academic Development in collaboration with IT Services and Library will be providing the following courses for UM academic staff for the month of September 2024. Using Turnitin The workshop is designed for academic staff who will use Turnitin -
the University’s plagiarism detection software. This session provides
participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively use
Turnitin within their teaching practice, ensuring adherence to the UM's
plagiarism guidelines and policies. Utilising IT technology in learning spaces The University of Malta has several learning spaces equipped with
technology such as a projected whiteboard, document camera, Zoom,
Lecture Capture (Panopto), AV control, etc. These spaces also support
hybrid lectures and integrate with the UM Virtual Learning Environment
(VLE). This hands-on workshop is designed to help academics familiarise
themselves with the technology and AV equipment available in the
learning spaces. Participants will learn how to operate the desk console for both class-based and hybrid lectures, and will learn how to
schedule a Zoom session in the VLE and assign it to a venue. The
benefits of Lecture Capture (Panopto) will also be discussed. Getting started with the VLE The workshop is designed to introduce academic staff to the Virtual
Learning Environment (VLE) supported by the University of Malta. The
participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to effectively
use this e-learning platform (based on Moodle) to complement and enhance their study-unit/class areas. Compiling reading lists using Leganto The workshop is designed to equip academic staff with the skills
needed to create, manage, and distribute study-unit specific reading
lists using Leganto. Leganto is a reading list management system connected to the UM
Library Services platform and embedded in the UM VLE. Leganto simplifies the process of generating and maintaining studyunit specific reading
lists (including books, ebooks, book chapters, articles, online
resources, etc.). During this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to create these reading lists and make them available to students
through the UM VLE.
