The SEA-EU Alliance is set to launch four exciting new joint programmes in 2025, expanding educational opportunities and strengthening collaboration among European universities. These innovative programmes will offer students interdisciplinary learning experiences focused on global challenges, along with the unique opportunity to study at multiple partner universities while earning a single, fully recognised degree.
As part of this initiative, University of Malta (UM) is financing two scholarships for each of the new Joint Master’s programmes, supporting talented students in their academic pursuits. These programmes are the outcome of extensive collaboration during the SEA-EU 1.0 and 2.0 phases, where academic and administrative teams from nine partner universities worked together to address legal and technical challenges. Three out of four programmes have already completed the accreditation process, while the Doctorate is in the final stages of approval.
The New SEA-EU Joint Programmes:
- Joint Bachelor in Sustainable Blue Economy (SeaBluE): Led by the University of Cadiz, this programme brings together the academic expertise and resources of seven SEA-EU universities to offer a truly European educational experience. The course offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum spanning marine science, environmental governance, sustainable entrepreneurship, and blue innovation. The programme features student mobility, applied learning opportunities, and a final-year specialisation in one of six thematic pathways. These allow students to tailor their studies according to their interests, with options ranging from aquaculture and marine biotechnology to ecosystem restoration and strategic coastal planning. The programme at UM is coordinated by the Department of Geosciences from the Faculty of Science, with Dr Adam Gauci as the academic coordinator. Registration is available online.
- Joint Master in Port Management and Logistics (MIPMAL): Also led by the University of Cadiz, this programme provides expertise in smart port operations, sustainable transport systems, logistics integration and law with relevance to port activities. The programme leverages on the collective cutting-edge expertise and resources of five SEA-EU universities and the support of the port authorities of the SEA-EU territories to prepare skilled professionals to lead in a thriving sector of global trade. The programme at UM is coordinated by the Faculty of Laws, with Dr Antoine Grima as the academic coordinator. The Student Handbook may be accessed online. Registration is available online, or you may send an email to Dr Grima to register your interest.
