The Office for Professional Academic Development (OPAD) offers a variety of workshops, programmes/courses and events that support the development of academic practice. Our focus areas include the teaching and learning experience, research productivity, leadership development, mentoring, work-life balance, and career advancement.
Programmes/courses are intensive, multi-session, and run over several weeks. Currently, OPAD offers two programmes:
Workshops are typically one or two sessions long and focus on a broad range of topics related to academic practice.
In addition to university-wide courses and workshops, OPAD facilitates professional development events tailored to specific academic communities. We welcome opportunities to collaborate with Faculties, Institutes, Centres, and Schools to offer bespoke workshops, subject to available expertise and capacity.
OPAD is in its early days and is currently developing a range of courses and workshops aimed at academics. Some of these workshops are also open for other categories of UM staff.
We encourage academics to view the current training schedule and register for the training events that align with their interests and professional goals. Early registration is recommended, as spaces are limited.
