The recently revamped black box theatre is a vital space within the University of Malta’s Valletta Campus in Merchant Street. The theatre is situated in a 16th century building; and has played an important role in students’ education for many generations. Formerly known as the MITP, the theatre has been the working space of the Department of Theatre Studies since 1989, and as of 2012, it caters for the needs of the School of Performing Arts.
Over the years the Valletta Campus Theatre has hosted many Maltese and international artistic companies; and has witness a variety of performances including drama, dance, exhibitions, lectures, talks, and much much more, delighting thousands upon thousands of audience members.
The Valletta Campus Theatre offers a very versatile space, suitable for many different types of performance arts. The theatre is fully-equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia equipment. It has a wooden type of flooring and the stage floor is flat. It also has a black and white cyclorama. It is equipped with a retractable seating system that can accommodate up to 170 people. The theatre is also fully air-conditioned.
