Department of Music Studies

About us

About us

The Music Studies Department offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. As an undergraduate or graduate student you can study composition, performance, musicology, and ethnomusicology with a team of specialists in their respective fields. All this is delivered in a dynamic environment that encourages musical creativity and practice whilst, at the same time, providing ample opportunities for the interaction of these with a range of scholarly interests.

All your teaching and supervision is delivered in a dynamic environment that encourages mutual learning and a sense of community; moreover, it builds on a shared passion for music. Tuition is given entirely in English and varies from classroom lectures to individual tuition, small group tutorials and departmental seminars. Students enrolled in our music degrees are encouraged to benefit from the diverse research interests of its academic staff members as well as from other academics within the School of Performing Arts. As a student, you are also encouraged to participate actively in one or more of the ensembles supported by the Music Department, namely, the Vocal Ensemble and the Wind Ensemble.
