Bibliography on the Environment

A Select Bibliography on the Environment in the Reference and Melitensia Departments of the University of Malta Library has been published by the University Library. Compilers Ms Joanna Felice, Reference Librarian, and Mr Anthony Pizzuto, Director Cleaner Technology Centre have identified a core list of 442 entries covering all aspects of the environment, drawing from the rich academic collections of the University of Malta Library. The bibliography supersedes a first edition published in 1992 under the title Environment: a select bibliography and doubles the number of items covered in that first edition, ample evidence of the interest and ongoing debate on such an important issue. The bibliography covers a wealth of reference sources such as directories, bibliographies, indexes and statistical report literature, and gives an excellent overview of the salient Maltese and European legal provisions governing environmental protection. It also embraces the multifarious aspects of environmental protection as applicable to our natural and cultural heritage with appropriate focus on urban planning, industrial activity, waste disposal and pollution control. The bibliography is particularly strong in its coverage of theses and dissertations, and in its listing of Maltese journal titles having a bearing on environmental issues. The bibliography carries a foreword by Minister for the Environment Dr Francis Zammit Dimech and is co-ordinated by excellent keyword and author indexes. Each entry carries the University Library's class-mark to help identify and retrieve items. The bibliography is mainly directed towards students following course modules touching on environmental issues, and to all those concerned with such an important facet of our lives.

Copies of the bibliography are available at Lm1 (students 50c) from the Office of the Director of Library Services on Tel. 32902316, attn. Ms R. Fino. 03.07.2000
