Angele Deguara is a Senior lecturer and Subject coordinator of Sociology and Art at the Junior College of the University of Malta. She has been lecturing in Sociology since 1995 and at the University of Malta since 2003. She obtained her masters degree in Sociology in 1999 following her research into the experience of factory work. She conducted her PhD studies with the Department of Anthropological Sciences at the University of Malta. Her doctoral research in the anthropology of religion and sexuality concerned the sexual morality and religious belief of LGBT Catholics in Malta and Palermo.
Angele is the author of Life on the Line: A Sociological Investigation of Women working in a Clothing Factory in Malta as well as a number of other published works. Her main research interests are religion and secularization, sexuality, gender and poverty. Between 2016 and 2018 she was the Secretary of the Malta Sociological Association.
She is an activist for social justice and civil rights.
