Before joining the University of Malta's Department of Nursing, Dr Scerri worked for 13 years as a staff nurse and eventually a charge nurse at Zammit Clapp Hospital and at Karin Grech Rehabilitation Hospital, following the integration of these two entities. In the meantime, he obtained a post-graduate Diploma and eventually a Master in Geriatrics and Gerontology from the European Centre of Gerontology and Geriatrics at the University of Malta. His Master dissertation focused on urinary continence promotion in a geriatric rehabilitation hospital. He also read for a Master Degree in Health Services Management with a dissertation that focused on the organisation of care in the acute hospital. Dr Scerri completed a Doctorate Degree in Gerontology in 2017 after successfully defending his thesis related to dementia care in hospital settings. Anthony is the Vice-President of the Maltese Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (MAGG), treasurer of the Malta Dementia Society, and a member of INTERDEM (a pan-European network of researchers collaborating in research on and dissemination of Early, Timely and Quality Psychosocial Interventions in Dementia) and of the Alzheimer Europe Expert Advisory Panel. He is also the coordinator of the Degree in Nursing (elderly care) programme at the University of Malta.
