Charlene is a Scientific Officer at the Department of Applied Biomedical Science, University of Malta. She contributes to multiple research projects, including the MAMI study, NGS project, TargetID, BioGeMT Project, and TargetMI, by managing sample and data collections, and conducting laboratory work.
Previously, she worked as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at the Haematology and Coagulation laboratories at Mater Dei Hospital (Malta).
Charlene holds an MSc in Forensic Science (with distinction) from the University of Strathclyde (2019), where her research focused on developing a PCR-based DNA test for Lynx species identification to support their reintroduction in the UK. She also earned a B.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Biomedical Science (with distinction) from the University of Malta (2018). Her undergraduate research examined leukocyte and platelet activation in myeloproliferative disorders using flow cytometry, and she presented her findings at the ISTH SSC Congress in Dublin in 2018.
