Before joining the University of Malta's Faculty of education, Prof. Deborah Chetcuti worked as a science teacher teaching integrated science and physics in a Girls' Secondary School. She also worked at MATSEC as Principal Subject Area Officer, Science.
She read for her undergraduate degree at the University of Malta obtaining a B.Ed. (Hons.). She then read for an M.Ed. (Curriculum & Instruction) at McGill University Canada. Following this she obtained her Ph.D. degree at the Nottingham Trent University, her thesis focusing on the Physics Secondary Education Certificate and assessment practice in general.
Prof. Chetcuti has participated in a number of national and international conferences. Her main research interest include assessment practices both at secondary and post-secondary level; pre-service teacher education; reflective practice; gender and science education; the use of drama and storytelling in the teaching and learning of science.
