Dr Ernest Cachia currently holds the post of Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology and Head of Computer Information Systems at the University of Malta. He holds Bachelor, Master's and Doctorate Degrees in Computing, Computer Engineering, and Software Engineering from the National Technical University of Ukraine and the University of Sheffield in England. Dr Cachia has worked in various Electronics and ICT companies, and private educational establishments, before taking up a lecturing post at the University of Malta where he has been rendering tenured service since 1994. He is involved in various EU projects and is currently project leader managing the construction of the New Faculty of ICT co-funded through ERDF funds. Dr Cachia is responsible for the software engineering stream in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the current B.Sc. (Hons) ICT Degree Programme at the University of Malta. Dr. Cachia has a track record of local and EU project participation: 1. EUMEDIS Project: Mediterranean Virtual University (multinational); 2. MiLearn (UoM); 3. European Thematic Network: DEC (multinational) and TRICE (multinational); 5. CleanSky JTI (multinational); 6. PRAXIS (multinational); 7. ERDF017 – The Constriction and Equipping of a New Faculty of ICT Building; 8. ERDF083 – Optimising Manufacturing Processes; 9. SALEIE - Strategic Alignment of Electrical and Information Engineering in European Higher Education Institutions (multinational). Dr Cachia is the project leader of a multi-million Euro project to construct and equip a new Faculty of ICT building. Dr Cachia is one of the founding members of the Malta eSkills Alliance and currently sits on the Board of Governors of this alliance. Dr Cachia formed part of the Managing Committee of the EU COST Action IS1004 “WebDatanetâ€, and forms part of the Managing Committee of the EU COST IC1205 Computational “Social Choiceâ€, and has been appointed member of the Board of Editors of the annual peer-reviewed journal of the National Technical University of Ukraine, and sits on the editorial board of QuickPM. Dr Cachia currently holds positions on various university, government and Industrial boards. Dr Cachia was a nominee for the award of Worker of the Year 2011.
