Dr Immanuel Mifsud read for B.Ed (Hons) and M.Ed degrees at the University of Malta. In 1995 he was employed by UOM as a lecturer at the Department of Maltese at the Junior College and soon after started giving lectures at the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Arts. In 2012 he obtained a Ph.D from the same university, with a thesis on body imagery in twentieth century Maltese poetry. He has given papers about literature and the body in various academic conferences.
As a writer and poet, Dr Mifsud has won a number of awards, including the European Union Prize for Literature in 2011. He has also been invited to give a reading and an interview at the Library of Congress in Washington DC (2017) and commissioned to write and read a poem for Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey (2017). He has also given readings and lectures at Birzeit University and An Najah University and also at the Mahmoud Darwish Cultural Centre in Palestine.
Dr Mifsud's award winning books have been published in UK, France, Slovenia, Romania, Serbia, Czech Republic, Egypt and in other countries.
In 2013 Dr Immanuel Mifsud was made a Member of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Malta.
In 2021 he became the president of the newly founded PEN Malta centre.
