Dr Gauci graduated with a first class honours degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Malta in 2005. In 2006 he moved to the UK to read for his Ph.D in Aerospace Engineering at Cranfield University. During his Ph.D he conducted research on the use of stereo vision sensors to detect obstacles on the ground during aircraft taxiing.
Following the completion of his Ph.D in 2010, Dr Gauci gained industrial experience by working in the UK aerospace and automotive sectors. His first role was as a software engineer at Resource Engineering Projects (REP), where he was involved in the development and verification of safety-critical aviation software designed to DO-178B. Following this experience, Dr Gauci was employed by Altran Technologies, where he was stationed at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and worked as a systems engineer within the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) team.
In 2014, Dr Gauci returned to Malta and started working at the University of Malta, first as a research support officer, and then as a resident academic within the Institute of Aerospace Technologies. Dr Gauci is currently involved in various aviation-related national and EU research projects and is constantly on the lookout for new research opportunities. Apart from conducting research, Dr Gauci is also involved in teaching and designing new courses within the Institute of Aerospace Technologies.
