Leonard Caruana obtained his Doctorate in Laws from the Faculty of Laws within the University of Malta in 2005 and was admitted to the Bar in 2006. In 2009, he obtained the Masters of Arts in Financial Services from the same University.
In his practice as an advocate, he served as a public prosecutor within the Office of the Attorney General and was responsible for criminal prosecutions before the Superior Courts of Malta. Between 2009 and 2011, Dr. Caruana was a delegate for Malta to the Group of States Against Corruption (GRECO) within the Council of Europe.
In 2011, Dr. Caruana established his private practice serving both local and international clients and practiced in various areas law including criminal law, civil law, commercial Law and taxation law.
In June 2021, Dr Caruana was called to the bench and he today serves as a Magistrate within the Court of Magistrates, Malta.
Dr Caruana has been lecturing and examining students in various areas of criminal Law within the Criminal Law Department, Faculty of Laws, University of Malta since October 2010. He has also supervised and examined numerous thesis and dessertations.
