MARK SAGONA, Ph.D., is a visual artist and resident member of the Department of Art and Art History, Faculty of Arts, University of Malta, where he lectures in Art History and Fine Arts. He is a leading specialist on the Decorative Arts in Malta within their international sphere and has published widely on the subject, including in 'The Journal' of the Decorative Arts Society (London). He also organised (with Dr Roberta Cruciata) the first conference on the Decorative Arts in Malta in 2019.

He has recently edited the first volume in a series of publications exclusively dedicated to the Decorative Arts in Malta: 'International Perspectives on the Decorative Arts – Nineteenth-century Malta' (Midsea Books, 2021). Other publications include 'The Nadur Basilica in Gozo: Art, Architecture, Decoration' (2018), and his contribution to 'The Addolorata Cemetery', edited by Prof. Conrad Thake (Midsea Books, 2020).

Mark Sagona has delivered lectures at the Art College of the University of Xiamen, China, and at the Università degli Studi di Palermo on the invitation of the Osservatorio per le Arti Decorative in Italia 'Maria Accascina'. He has recently participated in the international conferences 'Revivals', convened by the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Decorative Arts and Design (ICDAD), (October 2021), and (with Prof. Conrad Thake) 'Cirice 2020 La Città Palinsesto' organised by the University of Naples Federico II (June 2021).

As a visual artist, he has had ten personal exhibitions and his works have been exhibited widely in Malta, Rome, Brussels and Paris and are found in various collections around the globe.
