Dr. Stephen Abela is a Consultant Geriatrician with a specialist interest in Dementia Care and works at Karin Grech Hospital, Pieta'. He graduated as Medical Doctor in 1990, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1995 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2011.

He is registered as Specialist in Geriatric Medicine and Internal Medicine with the Specialist Accreditation Committee of Malta. He holds Master Degrees in Philosophy (2002) and in Health Services Management (2005) from the University of Malta and a Master Degree in Dementia Studies from the University of Stirling (2011). More recently, he has successfully completed further studies in Information and Computing Technology, and has attained a Bachelor of Science in Computing and Information Systems from the University of London International Programmes (2016).
