I started my teaching career in Valletta, Gzira, and Floriana Primary schools. After graduating B.Ed. in 1982 and doing a stint of teaching at the above localities, I followed a psychology conversion course at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia and then proceeded to professional training as an educational psychologist at Manchester University. I completed my PhD at the same university in 1996. I spent the first part of my career as a teacher, psychologist, and education officer (special needs). Then, in the late 1990s, I joined the University of Malta, initially in the Department of Psychology and subsequently in the Department of Education Studies. I am an associate fellow of the British Psychological Society and a chartered educational psychologist with the same society. I am registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (UK). I am also a chartered scientist with the Science Council (UK). My interests include most forms of learning difficulties like dyslexia, dyscalculia, attention deficit and hyperactivity, cognitive ability, broader educational needs, equity issues and child anxiety. I am currently involved in several international and local projects, all involving child welfare and improving children’s access to education. I am also active in the practice of educational psychology and maintain an ongoing interest in this aspect of my career.
