Several experimental campaigns aimed at the dielectric characterization of biological tissues, both human- and animal- derived, have been proposed over many years. However, the reported data from different studies do not always converge even when they refer to the same type of tissue or organ, and this poses a number of questions on accurate knowledge of dielectric properties of biological tissues up to date. The reasons for this uncertainty could be several; in particular, special attention has to be done to follow a strict measurement protocol, allowing for minimal sample preparation and thus minimal dehydration of sample.
In this talk, these issues are partially addressed by first establishing a rigorous procedure for the measurement of ex-vivo animal and human-derived tissue samples. Then, the correlation between the standard deviation of the measurements for each sample and its exact water content is investigated.
