In order to be accepted as Probationary Students, applicants presenting the IB Diploma must satisfy the following criteria:
- have reached the age of 18 by the 31st December of the year during which the course for which they apply commences; and
- are in possession of the required SEC passes in English, Maltese and Mathematics (or at a comparable level within the IB Diploma); and
- have sat all subjects required for the award of the IB Diploma; and
- have attempted their IB Diploma by sitting for the required subject or subjects at the May/June session of examinations of the year during which the course for which they apply commences; and
have obtained EITHER:
- A pass grade in a Language, a Science, and a Humanistic subject and in Theory of Knowledge and obtained between 24 and 27 points;
- OR obtained not less than 28 points but lack a pass grade in one subject from the Language, the Science, and the Humanistic groups and in Theory of Knowledge;
- OR lack not more than one point (such 4 points instead of a 5, but not 3 points instead 4) in a subject or subjects indicated as special course requirements (Higher or Standard level) for the course applied for, as long as they have obtained a pass mark in a Language, a Science, and a Humanistic subject and in Theory of Knowledge and not less than 24 points in the IB Diploma.
provided that all the provisions indicated above shall not be applicable to the following:
(i) courses which are restricted to a limited number of applicants, if all places have been filled by fully qualified applicants. Should any places remain vacant after the results of the MATSEC Second Session of examinations, the Faculty Admissions Committee concerned shall have sole discretion to decide on the criteria for choosing applicants for admission as probationary students in terms of these regulations;
(ii) courses that are not governed by the General Regulations for Undergraduate Courses; and
(iii) courses that may be accessed through a Certificate course at level 4 of the Malta Qualifications Framework (MQF) designed for the purpose of providing an alternative route to a higher level Undergraduate Course, unless the Board concerned makes a specific recommendation to the Admission Board
