Entry into undergraduate (Bachelor's degree) courses:

a) Applicants in possession of the Certificate of General Secondary Education (Atestāts par vispārējo vidējo izglītību) awarded as from 2023, will be considered to satisfy the University’s General Entry Requirements if they present:

The Certificate of General Secondary Education (Atestāts par vispārējo vidējo izglītību) with an overall grade of 80% or better, including two subjects at Advanced Level, and good passes in a language (excluding English), a humanistic subject and a science subject (preferably Mathematics) in the final year of studies. If not presented in the final year of studies, good passes in a language (excluding English) and Mathematics may be accepted from the penultimate year.

b) Applicants in possession of the Certificate of General Secondary Education (Atestāts par vispārējo vidējo izglītību) awarded up to 2022, we offer pathway programs* to help develop the skills you need to pursue an undergraduate course at UM. At our dedicated International School for Foundation Studies, we teach in small groups and guarantee special attention to each and every student. Access the full list of Foundation courses.

Entry into one of these programmes is at the sole discretion of the International School for Foundation Studies.

*The pathway programmes in Medical and Dental Sciences and in Health Sciences are only open to Non-EU/EEA nationals.

Entry into courses having Special Requirements:

Applicants in possession of the Certificate of General Secondary Education (Atestāts par vispārējo vidējo izglītību) awarded as from 2023, will be considered to satisfy any applicable Special Course Requirements if they present final year Advanced level passes at a grade of 80% or better in the subjects stipulated as Special Course Requirements, except for English Language. These requirements can be accessed in the respective course overview in the UM’s Course Finder.

Entry into capped courses, the Doctor of Medicine and Surgery course, and the Master of Dental Surgery course:

When applying for such courses, applicants would be required to fulfil the UM’s General Entry Requirements as per above, and separately present passes in the applicable Special Course Requirements from the Maltese examination board, MATSEC, or comparable examination boards, at the level and grade stipulated in the respective course regulations or bye-laws. These requirements can be accessed from the respective course overview in the UM’s Course Finder.

Entry into postgraduate (Master's degree) courses:

If you are looking to apply for a Master's course, we recommend referring to the specific requirements indicated on the Course Finder. In most cases, you must possess an undergraduate degree at a certain classification/GPA, depending on the chosen course. 

Applications for Master's courses are always assessed on a case-by-case basis following the receipt of a complete application.

English language requirements:

Applicants are also required to fulfill the University's English Language Requirements by means of a valid Secure English Language Test. Access more information in this regard.
