M.A in Youth Ministry

The Master of Arts in Youth Ministry is a professional programme designed to make candidates eligible as professional youth workers and to empower them to minister and work in today’s local context with youth. It is also intended to give a fresh and dynamic contribution to the local Christian Community. It is for this reason that the course attempts to strike a balance between theory and practice, as well as between the secular and Christian component.    The different modules of the programme cover the following topics: the youth minister; psychosocial perspectives on youth transitions; Christian perspectives on the human person; youth work trends and youth policy; models of youth ministry; youth ministry placement; foundations of pastoral theology and ministry; professionalism in youth ministry.   The course is recommended for those group leaders, especially youth leaders; youth workers; those involved in youth ministry, chaplaincies or pastoral work in schools counsellors, psychologists and social workers. The course is designed in such a way as to make successful candidates eligible as professional youth workers.   Course duration: 6 semesters part-time (evening)   Study mode: taught (2 years) and research (1 year)   Opening next: Offered every 3 years.   Funding opportunities: Prospective students may apply for bursaries or scholarships offered annually by the Foundation for Theological Studies, University of Malta or the Government of Malta. Upon successful completion of their studies, students may benefit from a tax credit of 70% of the full tuition fees under the Get Qualified Scheme.   Recognition and Accreditation of Prior Learning (RPL): Prospective students who have achieved expertise and skills in the past through certified or experiential learning may gain access to the course and/or gain exemptions from parts of it through the University’s RPL process.   Exit Awards: Students who do not proceed with the Course shall be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Certificate at the end of the First Year or the award of the Postgraduate Diploma at the end of the Second Year.   Queries may be sent by email to the course coordinator: Dr Dorianne Buttigieg
