Blended Intensive Programmes

Blended Intensive Programmes

A Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) is a short, intensive programme delivery jointly with at least two other European Institutions.  It makes use of innovative teaching methods and is delivered in a combination of physical and virtual format.

BIPs can be part of the HEIs’ curricula or complementary to them. They can be an entirely new programme or can be an enhancement of an existing programme with additional features.

BIPs should be developed and delivered by at least 3 Higher Education Institutions that are awarded with an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education coming from at least 3 programme countries (EU member states and third countries associated to the programme). In addition, any other HEI or organisation located in a programme or third countries not associated to the programme (non-EUs) may participate.
BIPs are required to recognise the learning material by awarding at least 3 ECTS.  To be eligible BIPs require at least 15 student participants from for HEI not based in the organising country.

Different roles in delivery of BIPs:

If you are interested in organising a BIP at the UM you are kindly requested to inform the International Office by the 15th December 2023.  A bid will be included in the Erasmus+ application for funding for the following academic year for the BIP to be organised at the UM.  Erasmus+ provides Euro 6000 as funding to cover costs related to the preparation, design, development, implementation and follow-up of the programme and delivery of virtual/remote activities as well as the overall management and coordination. This funding cannot be used to fund travel and subsistence of academics delivering the BIP or students participating in the BIP, both these will need to be funded by their home institution.

It is important to inform the International Office as soon as possible when you are approached with any proposals to participate in BIP coordinated by other partner HEIs in view of arrangements that need to be made in order to support academics delivering the BIP and students that will be participating in the BIP.  A call for application for the student will need to be issued and therefore ideally the International Office is informed at least 6 months prior to the delivery of the BIP to ensure sufficient time to undertake necessary preparations.

Funding for Staff Mobility Participants:

The International Office, will provide Erasmus+ funding to staff mobility participating in BIP in line with Erasmus+ Funding Rules.  Minimum duration for staff mobility to Progarmme countries is of 2 days excluding travel.

Funding for Student Mobility Participants:

Students interested in participating in BIPs abroad will need to apply for funding through a specific call issued.  Selected participants will be eligible to receive Erasmus+ Short term mobility rates: Euro 79.

More information about the call currently available kindly refer to the times below.
