COURSE OVERVIEW
This full-time distance learning M.A. provides you with an education on international relations that focuses on practical skills and theory about the basics of diplomacy. Through contemporary topics like language and diplomacy, internet governance, and development diplomacy, you will be trained to master the art of negotiation in a global context where presentation and content matters. While obtaining an advanced understanding and overview of current international diplomatic processes and methods, you will be tasked with writing at length about a topic of your choosing in the field of negotiation.
 
LEARNING OUTCOMES By the end of the course, you will be able to:

• Participate in global forums and policy-shaping discussions
• Research, analyse, and inform about current issues in diplomacy and negotiation
• Prepare and assist in position papers and input to global requests for comments and agendas
• Appreciate the active role of policymaking
• Present and conduct convincing policy in a competitive environment
 
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AND ACCESS TO FURTHER STUDY As a working diplomat or other international relations professional, you will find this course useful for acquiring further work-related knowledge and obtaining career advancement within your own organisations. Whether you are a postgraduate level student or a professional from other fields, this course will provide you with a solid preparation for gaining employment with their national ministries of foreign affairs, or in other international relations-related jobs (UN, other international organisations, international non-governmental organisations).
 
COURSE INTENDED FOR This course will of interest if you are:

• A practicing diplomat, civil servant, or others who works in international relations and seeking to refresh or expand your knowledge under the guidance of experienced practitioners and academics.
• A journalist, staff of international and non-governmental organisations, translator, business person and others who interacts with diplomats and seeking to improve your understanding of diplomacy-related topics.
• A post-graduate student of diplomacy or international relations seeking to study topics not offered through your university programmes or diplomatic academies, and to gain deeper insight through interaction with practicing diplomats.
• A post-graduate student or practitioner in other fields seeking an entry point into the world of diplomacy.
 
ADMISSION AND
PROGRESSION REQUIREMENTS
The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of:

(a) a Bachelor degree obtained with at least Second Class Honours or with at least Category II in an area of study deemed relevant by the Board or

(b) appropriate professional qualifications, together with sufficient related professional experience, that are acceptable to the Senate and deemed comparable to the qualifications in the above paragraph by the Board.
