COURSE OVERVIEW
The course aims to give students an introductory overview on gender issues and how these impact on the individual within the social, cultural, economic and political behaviour.

Its objectives are to:

• sensitise participants into the importance of gender as transversal theme in appreciating social, cultural, economic and political behaviour,
• facilitate the effective participation of men and women in decisions which invariably affect their lives,
• empower women and men to request, develop and maintain gender friendly and gender sensitive polices in the home, at work and in society.
 
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AND ACCESS TO FURTHER STUDY The knowledge, skills and competences gained from this course will enable the holders of this diploma to give a valuable input to the implementation of gender mainstreaming, equality and human rights, which have become an integral part of government policy.

The course is also suitable for persons who are interested in continuing their studies in areas related to human resources and gender studies.

Students who follow the Diploma and obtain an average mark of 60% or more may be allowed to join the third year of the Bachelor in Work and Human Resources (Honours) course (conditions apply – vide programme).
 
COURSE INTENDED FOR This course is primarily intended for those persons involved or interested in issues related to gender equality, the home, work and society. This course is also suited for those who are interested in jobs in areas such as Human Resources, Government entities, NGO’s and organisations working on gender related EU projects, amongst others.
 
ADMISSION AND
PROGRESSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy the General Entry Requirements for admission, namely, the Matriculation Certificate and Secondary Education Certificate passes at Grade 5 or better in Maltese, English Language and Mathematics.

Applicants admitted under paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of qualifications and experience that would satisfy the Board of Studies, through an interview, that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit.

Applicants admitted in terms of the above paragraph shall be in possession of a pass in an English language proficiency test as approved by the University before being admitted to the Course, provided that applicants in possession of a Secondary Education Certificate pass at Grade 5/GCE Ordinary Level pass at Grade C or higher in English or a pass at the same standard in a comparable qualification, shall be exempted from sitting for the proficiency test.

Applicants in terms of the 'maturity (adult learners) clause' are required to sit for an English Proficiency Test to be held on 5 September 2019. Successful applicants will then be required to sit for an interview in September 2019. These dates cannot be changed. Such applicants shall be exempted from sitting for the proficiency test if they are in possession of a pass at SEC level English at Grade 5 or better or equivalent. The closing date for receipt of applications from applicants in terms of the 'maturity (adult learners) clause' (those who will be sitting for the proficiency test and/or interview) is 31 August 2019. The closing date for other applicants is 30 September 2019.

The admission requirements are applicable for courses commencing in October 2019.
