Abstract: | There are 52 small island developing states (SIDS) in the world, of which 38 are members of the United Nations. While they may differ in many ways, these countries also share certain features that distinguish them from other country groups. Most of their socioeconomic activity is centred around bustling coasts and is reliant on ocean resources. This makes their fragile, smaller markets vulnerable to extreme weather and climatic shocks. |
