Abstract: | This study is based on qualitative research that explores teachers' methods of teaching painting in secondary schools, in relation to the teaching and learning of the visual elements such as line, colour, texture, form and pattern. The purpose of this study is to share themes and methodological styles when coming to terms with teaching painting in secondary schools in Malta. There are various painting approaches which art teachers and artists can use in order to teach painting or practice this particular artistic medium, wherein each and every painting approach differs in style and technique. This is done by interviewing ten art teachers who teach art at secondary level in different Maltese state schools. The teachers are asked to talk about their experience in class. A number of different tasks and activities are carried out by the researcher in order to have a direct experience in the classroom. Findings from this study show that teachers believe that painting is very important in the teaching and learning of art. It shows that teachers met up with a number of challenges during their teaching. |
