Abstract: This paper dwells on the critical pedagogical approach of the Italian educator, Don Lorenzo Milani. It highlights his efforts at creating a learning setting in which his students, all forced out of the Italian public schooling system, can gain a political reading of the world around them. It is an education for critical citizenship in its broadest sense. It is an education fostering caring about others and everything. It has a collective dimension and views knowledge and learning as not a jealously guarded possession but something to be shared with others in the spirit of 'I care'.
