Abstract: | The title of our introduction comes from Paulo Freire's Preface to Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Partial quoting is often misleading; therefore let us begin by citing the full sentence, perhaps one of the most, of so many, important sentences Freire ever wrote: From these pages I hope at least the following will endure: my trust in the people, and my faith in [humanity] and in the creation of a world in which it will be easier to love. (2972, p. 19). Paulo Freire, one of the foremost educational philosophers of this century, has bequeathed to us many powerful means to realize the hopes he mentions here as well as numerous others he dared to speak and write of during his life. |
