Abstract: This study examines professionals’ perspectives on the challenges impacting young offenders’ reintegration following incarceration as well as how they might be addressed. Semi- structured interviews were used to collect data from 8 experts in the field. The Constant Comparative Method was utilized to analyse the data. Main emergent categories referring to data associated with the challenges faced by young offenders on release are; preventing recidivism and restoring bonds with the community. The findings show that young offenders are seen by professionals to lack employment opportunities, possess limited skills and education and encounter family risks related to crime. Moreover, the effect of mental health problems, housing difficulties, weak community bonds and stigma were distinctive features seen by the professionals as influencing reintegration. Findings show how a holistic approach to service provision, community -based sanctions, community work and inter-agency collaboration constituting a restorative approach to reduce recidivism were underscored by the expert. A final conclusion of the study makes recommendations for policy and future research.
