This study has focused on the employer’s perspectives on the potential challenges that young ex-offenders face when attempting to find employment, whilst also exploring the positive effects which employment has on young ex-offenders and society in general. Data was gathered through semi-structured interviews with six participants, which included managing directors from different sectors. Thematic analysis was used in order to analyse data. The findings indicate that the participants are aware of the potential challenges young ex-offenders face and it has also been noted that employers might prefer to employ young ex-offenders rather than older ones. All of the participants think stigma and labelling do posit major issues, especially in the Maltese islands since the size of the islands allow for such. Only one of the participants had experiences with employing young ex-offenders, this resulting in unpleasant experiences for the employer. Most of the employers interviewed, claim to be willing to give a chance however, the seriousness of the crime committed would affect their decision. The participants also stated that after actual employment, they would keep an eye on the young ex-offender. All of the participants identified benefits to be reaped from employing young ex-offenders, such as creation of a purpose in life for young ex-offenders. The employers also believe that employment would decrease the rates of recidivism which would then lead to less crime and benefit society.en_GB
