Nisġa : storja kontemporanja

Abstract

It is with great pleasure that the Valletta 2018 Foundation launches NISĠA: Storja Kontemporanja, an art exhibition which takes as its point of departure the selection of artists included in the collection of essays, Malta Six Modern Artists. The exhibition presents narratives and connections that are grounded in this work; it seeks to revisit omissions and to proJect connections across generations of practising visual artists It is but a snapshot of artistic creativity across the ages that bridges the work of diverse artists and brings them together for the first time. The chosen backdrop for this exhibition is in itself a challenge. Indeed, Maltese modern art has often been considered insular, and occasionally regional It has also been described as rarely in line with international developments The Valletta 2018 Foundation is honoured to contribute towards this discussion through this exhibition and looks forward to reviving connections in the narrative with mainstream art history.
