dc.description.abstract | Gender roles are given to the sexes based on their natal sex, constraining their image based on their physical appearance. This study will thus explore these constructs and consecutively attempt to reconstruct fluidity in order to blur the fashion rules between males and females. An analysis of the timeline that influenced fashion changes in the sexes will be provided in chapter 2. In addition, an emphasis will be placed on hyper-feminine and hypermasculine garments, being that several artists and movements have indicated the normalization of gender-bending fashion in this manner. Through the means of Interpretivism, a combination of observational research and semi-structured interviews will be collected from four models. The research showed that gender norms are still prominent in society, basing their clothing on the socially accepted standard, although some individuals are advancing seeking an increase in gender-bending fashion. The final body of work will exhibit a publication, including a series of photographs imitating the researched timeline of how social constructs came to be, followed by their deconstruction. The work aspires to guide the viewer along with the photographs, creating a relatability through each stage of the series as a reflection of their constructs and the possibility of their true self-expression through fashion. | en_GB |
