Abstract: This brief newspaper article, penned at the same time as the conclusion of the pastoral synod of the archdiocese of Malta, in 2003, seeks to highlight one of the innovative themes which characterised the synod. Besides calling the Church as "mother and teacher", the assembly of the faithful gathered together opted to call the Church also as "sister and servant" or "sister and disciple". The latter is a complementary image of the local Church as it seeks to forge new bonds of communion, to nurture existing ones and heal the ruptured ones.
Description: A complementary image of the Church to the traditional "mother and teacher" - "sister and servant/disciple"
