| Abstract: | L'Africaine (The African Woman) is a French opera in five acts with music by Giacomo Meyerbeer and a libretto by Eugène Scribe. Meyerbeer and Scribe began working on the opera in 1837. The opera is set in Lisbon and on an island in the Indian Ocean during the 16th century. It tells a story of love, betrayal and politics play a major part where the heroine pays the ultimate price. |
