The Department of Nursing in the University of Malta (UM) sought to transform the students’ portfolios from a collection of achievements to a method of learning. In essence, the introduction of the ePortfolio amongst pre-registration nursing students comprised the introduction of a “learning” portfolio, which documents a student’s learning over time (Butler, 2006). This initiative echoed the implementation of ePortfolios across universities in different countries spanning various professions (Anderson et al., 2009; Lopez et al., 2011; Pincombe et al., 2010; Ruiz et al., 2009; Vernazza et al., 2011). Specifically, this case study describes the integration of the Google Sites Practice ePortfolio (GSPep) into the pre-registration nursing curriculum as a pedagogical environment for enhancing learning outcomes through the design of the placement-based teaching and learning activities.
