End stage renal disease is a condition were the kidneys stop functioning and thus lead to renal failure. End stage renal disease (ERSD) is a common condition, yet at times it is underestimated. In this dissertation ESRD will be investigated into more detail by assessing the quality of life of patients with ESRD, as well as the therapies available for the management of ESRD. The PICO framework question “What impact do invasive ultrafiltration apparatus in comparison to kidney transplant have on the quality of life of chronic renal failure patients?” was generated to provide a better understanding of the research by identifying the population, intervention, comparison, and outcome. To minimize selection bias, the inclusion and exclusion criteria was based on the PICO elements and databases were used. The CASP tools helped in the research process. The main results from the provided sources and evidence showed variables in the quality of life by various factors. In conclusion, this dissertation provided a better understanding of therapies and their impact on the quality of life of end stage renal failure patients. Finally recommendations are added to impact positively the quality of life of the patients.en_GB
