La principessa Sofia di Parnes, una ragazza molto amabile, bella e molto ricca, organizza una festa, alla quale partecipa un'elegante società, che include Bill Harris, capitano di un americano corvetta, ferma nel porto di Atene. Harris e Sofia si amano. La conversazione si sposta sul famoso brigante Hadschi Stavros che aveva a lungo infestato le montagne ateniesi, ma ora i giornali dicono che si è ritirato. Questo dà nuovo coraggio ai turisti inglesi e francesi per riprendere le loro visite alle antichità del quartiere.en_GB
