Abstract: Background: Dementia is one of most common reasons for dependency in aged people and will only become more common as time goes on as populations start ageing more. Furthermore, challenging behaviour, which can be caused due to dementia, causes a strain on the health care system as focus must go on the individual if possible, avoiding this situation is optimal. This dissertation tries to find if person-centred care could reduce these challenges. Research Question and PICO Elements: “Does person-centred care improve the mood of aged adults that are living with dementia?” P) Participants have to aged (65+) and have a diagnosis of dementia, I) Person-centred care, C) Usual treatment, O) Improvement in mood Method: Relevant Studies were systematically searched using Key Word and search tools such as Boolean Operators, limiters and synonyms. The studies were searched from 3 databases. Eligibility criteria included peer-reviewed, Aged, English language and posted in the last 10 years. For the search the PRISMA Checklist was utilised to identify relevant articles. 5 studies were chosen in the end 1 systematic review and 4 randomised controlled trials. How the studies were found is in the PRISMA Flow Diagram 2020 The studies were then appraised by using their respective Critical Appraisal Skills Programme tool. Results and Conclusion: The chosen studies were found to be inconclusive due to inconsistent results. Further research is needed to produce better results. Recommendations: Guidelines be made for dementia care for standardised care, more education on person-centred care, more implementation of person-centred care.
