Abstract: Otello is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi with a libretto by Arrigo Boito, based on Shakespeare's play 'Othello'. The first performance took place at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan on 5 February 1887.
The Plot: Verdi's Othello follows the story of the happy couple, Othello, governor of Cyprus and Venetian general, and Desdemona as they are drawn into an evil plot hatched by Iago. Iago is Othello's despised standard-bearer, passed over for a promotion.
