Abstract: | This newspaper article discusses works of Franz Kafka, a preeminent novelist of the 20th century. Focusing on his early works, such as ''Metamorphosis'' and ''The Trial'', the article explores Kafka's portrayal of characters who exhibit lack of vigilance, perpetually succumbing to distractions with dire consequences. Kafka weaves institutional social structures into his narratives, reinforcing a sense of misery and oppression that leaves individuals feeling helpless and alienated. Drawing parallels with Kafka's themes, the article connects these fictional struggles to a contemporary gospel message, urging readers to be mindful of developing 'hardened hearts' leading to sinful attitudes. The gospel challenges individuals to remain vigilant and avoid succumbing to a transformative awakening, akin to Kafka's narratives, while in a state of spiritual ''sleep''. |
